“Selin Sümbültepe's music speaks to a global audience with a sense of discovery, urging listeners to engage with the universality of sound”

Khayal — dream, imagination, the space where feeling finds its form — is Selin Sümbültepe's Arabic-language EP, where the language becomes both a creative playground and an emotional home. Although Arabic is not her mother tongue, it carries deep resonance shaped by Hatay's multilingual cultural heritage, and here it becomes the vessel for her most vulnerable songwriting yet.
Produced by Zeid Hamdan, the EP moves from the tender elegy of "Ya Ummi" to the intimate surrender of "Bass Hubni," and into the hypnotic rhythmic drive of "Bass Shway" feat. Yazan al-Rousan (Autostrad) — with Selin's warm, unhurried vocals anchoring every track. "Give Me Time," a self-produced alternative version arriving in May, closes the journey with oud-led melodic clarity and pop energy.
Fusion Folk Pop at its most personal.
“Bass Hubni,” the second single from Selin Sümbültepe’s upcoming EP Khayal, captures the elegance, fragility, and inevitable surrender of love. The song’s Arabic title, translating to “Just love me,” epitomizes a longing stripped of demand, where devotion speaks softly yet moves with undeniable rhythm. Middle Eastern percussion, oriental grooves, and a surging guitar solo transform tenderness into motion. Sümbültepe’s voice glides across this dynamic landscape — intimate, sensual, and resolute.
An irreplaceable emptiness unfolds within you. The cradle of a mother gives way to the merciless embrace of time. It is a vast loneliness the untested will never know. Ya Ummi is perhaps one of Selin Sümbültepe’s most profound songs, opening a window into her inner world. Each line carries both her tender portrayal of her mother and the longing she endures. Ya Ummi marks the starting point of Selin Sümbültepe’s upcoming EP Khayal, where she embraces Arabic as a musical and creative playground.
"Hemhal" (to unite, in English), Selin Sümbültepe’s latest EP released on October 24, 2024, celebrates the culture of Hatay, her home region in Southeastern Turkey, neighboring Syria. Selin’s mission to transmit to the next generation the culture that she was born into was reinforced when life in Hatay turned into a nightmare in 2023. With a devastating earthquake affecting her roots so deeply, Selin Sümbültepe embraced these songs to find healing and solace through music.
"Hemhal" was produced by Lebanese indie and global music pioneer Zeid Hamdan. For the first time in her career, Selin Sümbültepe was able to cooperate and interact with a renowned producer. Selin’s Fusion Folk Pop, with songs of love and of hope, should be listened to by people who have an open mind for discovery, who do not like borders and who rejoice in the universality of music. It is music of joy and for the soul.
